17 Creative Christmas Coffee Table Decor Ideas

I decorate the Christmas tree, the mantel, and the front door every single year. Then, I go by the coffee table and think I’ll get to that later.

“Later” is normally about December 20th, by which point everything else in the house is Christmassy, but the coffee table is still holding last week’s magazines and the remote.

If you do this too, these suggestions are for you.

In fact the coffee table is a really easy place to add Christmas decorations. You don’t need a ladder, special hooks or glue.

And since it’s central to the room, where everyone hangs out, getting the coffee table looking nice makes the entire living room feel more considered, more complete, all without changing anything else.

Why The Coffee Table Is The SECRET To A Festive and Cozy Living Room

Everyone focuses on the Christmas tree, and the mantelpiece is for garlands and stockings, the front door for a wreath. But the coffee table is right in the middle of everything, the spot where we all get together.

That’s where hot chocolate mugs are placed, and where kids will be on the floor surrounding it on Christmas morning. Throughout December it’s the most used surface in the house, yet it’s pretty much always overlooked.

You don’t have to do a lot to make it lovely, it doesn’t have to be complicated or pricey!

It simply needs to look as if someone gave it a moment’s consideration before the 24th of December!

These 17 Christmas coffee table ideas will help you do just that!!!

Let’s dive right in!

How To Put Everything Together (Without Overdoing It)

People most often mess up decorating a coffee table (whether for Christmas or any time) by trying to display all their things at once.

First, choose the main focus for the table, a single item it’s built around.

Then, arrange two or three smaller items around that. Perhaps a candle in one spot, a pile of books in another, and a little dish of decorations. Don’t cover all of the wood! What appears to be blank space is actually room for the eye to rest and your arrangement needs that.

Also, you aren’t obligated to get everything done immediately. Start with the items you already have, introduce a single new piece, and then live with it for a day. After that, you can consider if anything else is necessary.

In my experience, my best displays have evolved through this gradual process of adding things, instead of from a marathon arranging session and then a lot of regret.

My Final Thoughts

I say I’ll get around to decorating earlier every December, yet I’m invariably staring at the coffee table on December 20th, coffee in hand, and deciding right then to begin.
This year I managed to do it before the 20th, which is a small win.

Our living room coffee table is battling for prominence against Tasos’s enormous dining table (and believe me, that dining table is very good at being the center of attention), but I’ve discovered the coffee table can more than hold its own with a little effort. I’m talking a tray of candles, some green leaves from the balcony, a dish of baubles the girls chose themselves. Twenty minutes is all it needs to make the entire room feel festive.
