How to Make a Boring TV Stand Look Festive for Christmas (Without Hiding the TV)

Every Christmas decorating article talks about the mantel, the staircase, the front door, the dining table. Nobody talks about the TV stand, which is usually the largest piece of furniture in the living room and the thing every single person looks at for three hours every evening watching Christmas films.

The TV stand is the elephant in the Christmas living room. Everyone ignores it because they do not know what to do with it, and so it sits there in its regular Tuesday configuration while everything around it looks festive and it does not.

I spent two Christmases ignoring ours before I finally decided to do something about it. What I discovered is that the TV stand is actually one of the easiest surfaces in the house to style for Christmas because it already has structure: a wide horizontal surface, space underneath, and often shelves or compartments that become natural display opportunities.

You do not hide the television. You style around it. Here is how.
