The Cutest Mini Ghost Crochet Patterns You Can Actually Make Tonight!

Fall is finally here.
The air is getting crisp, the evenings are getting darker, and it is the perfect time to pull out your yarn stash. If you love decorating for Halloween but hate spending a fortune on store bought plastic items, crafting your own crochet ghost decoration is the ultimate solution.
We know how frustrating it can be for beginners to look at gorgeous photos of spooky crochet online and feel completely overwhelmed.
You buy the yarn, you try to follow a complicated crochet ghost pattern, and you end up with a tangled mess. We want to stop that cycle right now.
You do not need to be an expert to make a cute crochet ghost.
Ghost amigurumi is just the art of crocheting in a circle. If you can make a single crochet stitch, you can absolutely make a mini crochet ghost to hang as a crochet ghost ornament on your fall tree, string into a garland, or place on your mantel.
Today, we analyzed four incredibly unique styles and created a step by step ghost crochet pattern for each one.
We wrote out the exact rounds so you can follow along easily and finally make the perfect crochet ghost without any tears. Grab your hook, pour yourself a hot coffee, and let us make some friendly little spirits.
Before You Begin: The Basics

To make these patterns, you will need a few standard supplies.
- Yarn: Medium weight (Size 4) white acrylic or cotton yarn. For the chunky ghost, you will need a Super Bulky (Size 6) white chenille yarn.
- Hook: A 3.5mm or 4.0mm hook for the worsted yarn, and a 5.5mm or 6.0mm hook for the chunky yarn.
- Extras: Black plastic safety eyes (6mm to 10mm depending on your preference), polyfill stuffing, a tapestry needle, and a small amount of black and pink yarn for embroidery.
Abbreviations You Will See:
- MR: Magic Ring
- sc: single crochet
- inc: increase (put two single crochets in the same stitch)
- dec: decrease (combine two stitches into one)
- hdc: half double crochet
- dc: double crochet
- sl st: slip stitch
- ch: chain
- FLO / BLO: Front Loops Only / Back Loops Only
Pattern 1: The Chunky Baby Ghost

This first pattern creates a very soft, plush ghost stacked with adorable details like pink blushing cheeks and tiny little arms. Because you use chunky yarn, this project works up in about fifteen minutes.
The Body:
- Round 1: Make 6 sc in a Magic Ring. (6 stitches)
- Round 2: Work 1 inc in every stitch. (12 stitches)
- Round 3: 1 sc, 1 inc. Repeat this around. (18 stitches)
- Rounds 4 to 6: Work 1 sc in every stitch around. (18 stitches)
- Stop here to insert your safety eyes between Rounds 4 and 5. Embroider a small pink line under the outer corner of each eye for the blush. Stuff the head firmly.
- Round 7: 1 sc, 1 dec. Repeat this around. (12 stitches)
The Skirt and Base:
- Round 8 (The Ruffle): Work in the FLO. 1 sc in the first stitch, 2 hdc in the next stitch. Repeat this pattern around. (18 stitches)
- Round 9 (Closing the Base): Push the ruffle forward so you can see the back loops left over from Round 7. Work in the BLO. 1 dec in every stitch around. (6 stitches). Fasten off and weave the tail closed.
The Arms (Make 2):
- Chain 3. Slip stitch into the second chain from your hook, and single crochet into the last chain. Leave a long tail and sew them directly to the sides of the ghost.
Pattern 2: The Smiling Wavy Ghost

This pattern uses standard worsted weight yarn. It features a sweet embroidered smile, a very pronounced wavy bottom edge, and small bobble-like bumps for arms.
The Body:
- Round 1: Make 6 sc in a Magic Ring. (6 stitches)
- Round 2: Work 1 inc in every stitch. (12 stitches)
- Round 3: 1 sc, 1 inc. Repeat this around. (18 stitches)
- Rounds 4 to 5: Work 1 sc in every stitch around. (18 stitches)
Creating the Bump Arms:
- Round 6: Work 5 sc. Now we will make the first arm. Chain 2, then slip stitch back into the exact same stitch you just came from. Work 8 sc across the front of the body. Make the second arm by chaining 2 and slip stitching into the same space. Work 5 sc to finish the round. (18 main stitches)
- Round 7: Work 1 sc in every stitch around. When you reach the little chain bumps you made in Round 6, simply push them forward and crochet into the main stitch behind them. (18 stitches)
- Insert safety eyes between Rounds 4 and 5. Use a thin piece of black yarn to sew a small “V” shape for the smiling mouth. Stuff the body.
The Wavy Skirt and Base:
🔥 Would you like to save this?
- Round 8 (The Wavy Edge): Work in the FLO. 1 sc in the first stitch, 2 dc in the next stitch, 1 sc in the next stitch. Repeat this pattern around to create soft waves.
- Closing: Work in the back loops of Round 7. 1 sc, 1 dec around until the hole is small enough to sew completely shut.
Pattern 3: The Witchy Ghost with the Orange Hat

If you love detailed accessories, this ghost is perfection. It has a beautiful, tight ruffle at the base, separate arms that reach forward, and a festive orange and black witch hat sitting right on top.
The Body:
- Round 1: Make 6 sc in a MR. (6)
- Round 2: inc around. (12)
- Round 3: 1 sc, inc around. (18)
- Round 4: 2 sc, inc around. (24)
- Rounds 5 to 9: sc in every stitch around. (24)
- Insert eyes between Rounds 5 and 6, keeping them fairly close together. Stuff firmly.
- Round 10: 2 sc, dec around. (18)
The Heavy Ruffle:
- Round 11: Work in the FLO. Place 3 hdc in every single stitch around. Putting three stitches into one space forces the yarn to fan out heavily, creating that beautiful folded sheet look.
- Close the base by decreasing in the back loops of Round 10.
The Arms (Make 2):
- Chain 4. Single crochet into the second chain from the hook, and single crochet in the remaining two chains. Sew these to the sides of the ghost.
The Orange Hat:
- Round 1: Using orange yarn, put 4 sc in a MR. (4)
- Round 2: 1 sc, inc around. (6)
- Round 3: 2 sc, inc around. (8)
- Round 4: 3 sc, inc around. (10)
- Round 5: 4 sc, inc around. (12)
- Round 6 (The Stripe): Switch to black yarn. Work 1 sc in every stitch. (12)
- Round 7 (The Brim): Switch back to orange yarn. Work in the FLO. Place 2 sc in every single stitch around to create the flat brim. Leave a long tail and sew the hat securely to the top of the head.
Pattern 4: The Conical Ghost

This ghost steps away from the traditional round head. It has a triangular, cone-like shape that tapers up to the top and wears a classic black witch hat. It is also designed to sit completely flat on a table without any arms getting in the way.
The Conical Body:
- Round 1: Make 4 sc in a MR. (4)
- Round 2: 1 sc, inc around. (6)
- Round 3: 2 sc, inc around. (8)
- Round 4: 3 sc, inc around. (10)
- Round 5: 4 sc, inc around. (12)
- Round 6: 1 sc, inc around. (18)
- Round 7: 2 sc, inc around. (24)
- Rounds 8 to 10: Work 1 sc in every stitch around. (24)
- Insert eyes near the upper, narrow portion of the body. Stuff the cone firmly.
The Star Base:
- Round 11: Work in the FLO. To create a slightly jagged, textured edge that looks like torn fabric, try this pattern: 1 sc, chain 2, 1 sc in the next stitch. Repeat this all the way around.
- Closing Flat: Work in the BLO of Round 10. 2 sc, dec around. Continue decreasing evenly until the bottom is completely flat and closed.
The Black Hat:
- Follow the exact same hat pattern from Project 3, but use black yarn for the entire piece. Sew it directly onto the narrow tip of the ghost body.
Final Thoughts
Crochet is supposed to be relaxing.
When you are making your first ghost, your tension might be a little tight, or the ruffle might look a little messy. That is perfectly fine.
The beautiful thing about making spooky decorations is that if they look a little wonky, it just adds to their creepy, handmade charm.
Pick the pattern that excites you the most, count your stitches carefully, and take your time.
Until next time,
Stay safe,
