Renter Friendly Bedroom Ideas That Won’t Cost You Your Deposit

The bedroom is the last room I ever get to in a rental, and I think that’s true for most people. You spend all your energy making the living room presentable for guests, and your own bedroom stays a mattress, a lamp on the floor, and a suitcase you never fully unpacked.
Our bedroom in the second Thessaloniki flat stayed like that for nearly a year. Tasos kept saying it looked like we’d just moved in. We had not just moved in.
The thing that always stopped me was the same thing that stops everyone. The two things that make a bedroom feel finished, a proper headboard and that built-in, fitted look, both seem to need a drill, a wall you’re allowed to ruin, and a landlord who won’t mind. In a rental you have none of those.
So I worked out how to fake both. A headboard that hangs on nothing, and a built-in look that’s really just clever freestanding pieces lined up right. Here’s everything, and all of it comes down clean on moving day.
First, the part everyone worries about.
